Willmington is situated approximately 8 miles to the west of Eastbourne. The Long man of Willmington is world famous as a ancient monument, although its purpose or meaning remain speculative.
Willmington also has a priory which at the height of its power, controlled most of the lands between Chichister and Dover. When Henry 8th ordered the disillusionment of the monasteries the greater part of it was pulled down. There however remains ruins that are of great interest and are well worth a visit.
The village church is in magnificent settings next to the priory and in the church yard there is a truly splendid uye tree that is so old it has to be supported. the village animal pound is also still preserved.
